Just In Time For Christmas

An email from Henry suggested Leonard Cohen iPhone covers as the next Heck Of A Guy New & Improved Leonard Cohen Merchandise line (Heck Of A Guy New & Improved Leonard Cohen Merchandise is available - well, it's not available, which is why this blog is still in business). So, Henry, how about these tie-ins?

I Love Leonard Cohen - The Birthday Video

September 21, 2011 is Leonard Cohen’s 77th birthday, an event DrHGuy is commemorating with a video of scenes from Leonard Cohen’s life and photos of fans expressing their affection for Mr. Cohen, all set to “I Love Leonard Cohen” by Robin Grey.

The song “I Love Leonard Cohen” by Robin Grey was discussed by DrHGuy in 2008 at I Love Leonard Cohen & Robin Grey Ain’t Bad Either. Robin Grey responded to DrHGuy's review. See his response and DrHGuy's response to his response at The Rise & Fall Of The Biggest Leonard Cohen Fan. Feel free to respond.

Lyrics and information about the Robin Grey album can be found at I Love Leonard Cohen e.p.

Shades of Leonard Cohen #37 - Frozen Love

Poplc
Contributed by Christine Geyer - see Leonard Cohen Finds Love.  An excerpt follows:

... the earliest  known manuscript of what would become the lyrics to “Everybody Knows.” Although the words vary significantly from the final version of the song, the parallels are unmistakable.

Everybody licks raspberry 'sicles
Everybody licks lime and pistachio
Everybody licks  blueberry and chocolate
Even with a mustachio.
Everybody knows you’ve been discreet
But there were so many flavors you just had to eat

You must come quick,
I’ll give you one more lick.

Everybody licks, everybody licks
When it drips it sticks
So everybody licks

Everybody licks, everybody licks
To get their kicks
Everybody licks

Leonard Cohen - The Ladies’ Man Leaves His Hat On: The Video

The recent acclamations of religious experiences, transcendence, and mystic ecstasy vis-a-vis Leonard Cohen have increased Cohen Veneration titers to dangerous levels. In the service of reverence-modulation, this video offers, as a valid alternative perspective to the adoration of Leonard Cohen as icon, the vision of Leonard as hunk (DrHGuy has been advised by usually reliable sources that many women consider Mr Cohen somewhat attractive). Rather than pairing Leonard Cohen with the spirit of Yeats, this video calls upon the services of Randy Newman and Etta James, the author and performer, respectively, of the musical background, “You Can Leave Your Hat On.
