DrHGuy & The Duchess Are Booking

Bokstack
Later this morning the Duchess of Durham and I will take delivery of the 99 (yes, we counted - twice) boxes of unsorted books that have been in storage in Chicago the past five years.

These represent the remains of the library previously housed at a former, much larger domicile. A portion of the upstairs section of that library can be seen below in the background of my demonstration of the dismount from the walker to which I was chained while recovering from a broken hip.

We calculate we have enough empty shelf space to accommodate about two-thirds of those volumes.

I hope to resume less bookish postings in the next two or three days.

DrHGuy Blog Named Liebster Award Winner

L-award

Hermitage Prisoner at Abstractor Of The Quintessence has named the DrHGuy site a Liesbter Blog Award winner. While this may smack of logrolling, given that DrHGuy bestowed a Liebster Award upon Holy Roman's Cyber-empire - the sites managed by  Hermitage Prisoner (aka Roman Gavrilin), DrHGuy has calculated that being able to read such kind words about this blog more than  compensates for suffering any (metaphorical) slings and arrows of outrageous fortune that may be triggered as a result:

DrHGuy - On Life, Love, Lust, & Leonard Cohen

Author: Allan Showalter

Reason: as for me, this is one of the coolest projects in whole Cohen universe, along with both LCF’s by Espoo Magician.

Note: Heck Of A Guy’s side project. It wasn’t mentioned in original nomination by Da Bear, so I can’t resist giving the award to this superb true-scientific blog.

Note: Because our sister site, Heck Of A Guy was already named a Liebster winner and has exercised the opportunity to name the next five recipients of the Award, DrHGuy will opt out of this option.  No use being greedy.

Here Today - Gone To Maui

Maui
DrHGuy and The Duchess are indeed departing for the sun-drenched shores of Kaanapali Beach to celebrate their nuptials. One consequence of this event is that both the Heck Of A Guy and DrHGuy sites will be dormant until our return in February.  While The Duchess and DrHGuy are wild for Leonard Cohen, it is, as they say in  those post-calculus math courses, intuitively apparent that the marriage would be best served by DrHGuy attending to the business at hand (make your own joke) rather than pounding out posts.

That does not, however, mean that matters Cohen will be entirely forgotten in the next week or two. In fact, this occasion had led to another installment of  Cohenphilic Personality Disorder symptoms. That’s right, there is now a set of signs for

You may be a Leonard Cohen fan if, when packing for your your honeymoon in Maui, you find yourself thinking

  • Is it enough to take two iPods filled with every song Leonard Cohen has performed plus all the songs recorded by his backup singers as well as a significant fraction of the 2000+ covers of Cohen's music - or do we also pack the Complete Columbia Album Collection CD set, just in case?
  • What sort of lei goes best with a black suit and fedora?

Lc-lei

That's all the teasers.  For the complete set of symptoms, see Heck Of A Guy Honeymoon Hiatus and Honeymoon Edition Of You May Be A Leonard Cohen Fan If …

If Leonard Cohen Is Happy ...

And, it does appear from this photo of Leonard Cohen, shown sitting with members of the Youth Choir who performed at the concert at Teatro Jovellanos held in his honor, that he is happy.

Now that Leonard Cohen's Excellent Adventure In Oviedo is complete, DrHGuy is planning to take a day or two off - unless Leonard can't wait that long to win another prize, release another album, go on another tour, or perform some other bit of wonderfulness.

During this interlude, DrHGuy recommends readers check out the new entry at the amazing Speaking Cohen site (where the equally amazing Marie Mazur serves as webmaster) that provides access to all the significant articles, photos,  and and videos from the accredited press featuring Leonard Cohen at the Prince Of Asturias Awards.

DrHGuy To Party (Kinda) Hearty & Return Oct 5

Drhguyreturnsoct5
The celebration of the DrHGuy-Duchess of Durham marriage takes place this weekend. The consequent party prepartions, reunions with friends and family, and recovery period preclude creating new posts for a few days. As noted on the Cohen-mounted sign (adapted, of course, from an item found in the Dominique BOILE collection), DrHGuy will be back in the blogging business by October 5, 2011.

During this hiatus, Heck Of A Guy will be featuring encore presentations (aka reruns). Today's recommendation is Highlights Of The 2008 Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame Leonard Cohen Induction - Including The Lost In Space Episode:

DrHGuy Thanks Duchess, Leonard Cohen For Wedding Gifts And Says So Long For Now

Unless Hurricane Irene plays wedding crasher, DrHGuy and Duchess of Durham are scheduled to marry tomorrow with the just reverend enough Duke of Derm officiating. Consequently, the DrHGuy blog will be on hiatus for the next 5-7 days, after which new posts will again begin appearing here, still working for your smile. As a parting gesture, DrHGuy offers a look at a couple of his wedding presents the Duchess selected from the Leonard Cohen gift registry.

Shown is a message from Leonard Cohen on the inside page of Book of Mercy. Other selections are on view at Thank You Leonard Cohen and Duchess Of Durham For The Wedding Gifts.

Credit Due Department: Special thanks and gratitude are owed and hereby proffered to Kezban Washington, Leonard Cohen’s Assistant, who went far beyond her job description in colluding with the Duchess to assure that these autographs were executed, prepared, packaged, and shipped in timely fashion, extending in the process courtesy and warmth.
