All of these photos of Leonard Cohen – which my resident expert assures me are “very sexy” – were taken by Dominique Issermann, whose qualifications for this job include not only her credentials as an internationally renowned French fashion photographer but also her history as the Canadian singer-songwriter’s lover (beginning in the early 1980s and extending several years), their collaborative work on videos including “Dance Me To The End Of Love,” and their ongoing friendship that persists unto this day.

The shots appear in “Leonard par Dominique,” an article published in the January 26, 2012 issue of Le Nouvel Observateur. More of the interview itself, in which Dominique Issermann talks about her relationship with and her unique perspective on Leonard Cohen and the other graphics from the article will also appear on this site with at least a couple of intriguing portions of the text, published in French, translated into English, but these evocative photos deserve their own posting.
Note: These photos were previously published at the Heck Of A Guy site; they are re-posted here for archival purposes.
Bonus - The Leonard Cohen Centerfold
Dominique Issermann also took this previously posted photo of Leonard Cohen on the beach originally published in “Compagnons de route – Portfolio Cohen par Isserman,” Les Inrockuptibles Issue # 709, June 30 to July 6, 2009.
Credit Due Department: These photos and the forthcoming Le Nouvel Observateur article itself as well as the shot from Les Inrockuptibles were, as ongoing viewers are likely to have already surmised, contributed by Dominique BOILE.

Dominique Isserman
While Leonard Cohen rarely takes third place in a DrHGuy post, when I received these photos Dominique BOILE forwarded from yesterday's Paris event promoting Leonard Cohen's Old Ideas album (please do not reproduce photos without permission of photographer), I was most taken with the striking, rarely captured shot of Dominique Isserman (often spelled "Issermann") seen atop this post.
This brief biography is from Ykone:
... Dominique Isserman made her photography debut at 26. She began working with Zoom magazine doing celebrity profiling. Known for the delicacy of her portraits, the young artist slowly became a prominent figure on the style scene ... Among others, Chanel, Christian Dior, Lancôme and Yves Saint Laurent were all impressed with Dominique’s work and signed her to shoot their campaigns. In 1987, Dominique was awarded the equivalent of an Oscar in fashion photography. Afterwards, she went on to work with countless fashion magazines, including Vogue, US Cosmopolitan and New York Magazine.
Leonard Cohen fans may know that he and Dominique were romantically involved in the 1980s and that she has continue to photograph him. See posts tagged Dominique Isserman.
Robert Kory
And, this photo of Leonard Cohen's business manager, Robert Kory, equipped with cigar and drink and posed against the night sky of Paris, presents an image that is somehow precisely right.
Leonard Cohen
But, of course, it all comes back to the man.
While I've previously posted the photo atop this post and the one immediately below, both of which Sony has released as part of the marketing campaign for Leonard Cohen's forthcoming Old Ideas album, I was only able today to confirm they were indeed taken by Dominique Issermann.
It seems only right to re-post them as a belated Credit Due Department item.
Besides, it's as good a rationale as any to offer these nifty shots again.
The Dominique Issermann photo shown below is also being used in the Old Ideas promotion, but it has been previously published at least as early as August 24, 2009 when it illustrated State of Grace - Leonard Cohen’s Return.by Sasha Frere-Jones (New Yorker).
While this straightforward contemporary photo of Leonard Cohen in his trademark fedora, dark suit, and unified heart tie was originally posted at Sony Music Canada only yesterday, it has already earned the attention and compliments of fans and the requisite giddiness and inevitable swoons from female admirers. I'm posting it because - well, it's too good not to post.

Taste Of Leonard Cohen Note: I don't recall a previous shot of Leonard Cohen wearing a tie emblazoned with the unified heart logo. I have seen a similar tie marketed as official World Tour merchandise. While the tie in the image below (from LeonardCohenFiles) appears to be gray or silver, a LeonardCohenForum post describes a "thin black silk tie with the intertwined heart logo embroidered in a nice baby blue thread" for sale in one of the merchandise booths. If readers are aware of other photos the Canadian singer-songwriter sporting a unified heart cravat, please let me know in the comments or via email.
Credit Due Department: I first learned of this photo from a Facebook posting by Mandy.
